ERP Change Management

In most ERP consumer products implementation projects, the management of change will be one of the key determinants of project success. This is particularly so if the organisation is replacing legacy systems that have been heavily customised and/or have been in use for a long period of time.

BSM’s approach to change management in ERP implementations is based on the following key objectives:

  • Ensure that all key stakeholders are fully aligned with the project objectives
  • Ensure that communication takes place at the right time, to the right people via the right medium prior to, during and subsequent to the project
  • Carefully think through all of the organisational implications of the change resulting from the project, and manage the transition to new roles, responsibilities and organisational structures
  • Provide the appropriate level of training to all people impacted by the project, at the right time in the most appropriate manner.

BSM’s change management methodology uses stakeholder management matrices, communication, workforce transition and training plan templates to provide structure to the change process and to help achieve the key change management objectives.

In many ERP projects, change management is neglected, since most technology vendors do not have the skills to deal with the people and organisational issues resulting from the implementation. BSM works effectively alongside technology vendors, ensuring that the change management plan dovetails with the main milestones of the ERP implementation methodology and that the change management gap is closed.
